Race Face Next SL Carbon FatBike Cranks

Look what we just got our hands on (or at least look at part of it above – more on that in a bit).

A couple of us in the shop ordered new Race Face Next SL carbon FatBike cranksets for ourselves, and they just arrived. They are identical to the ‘standard’ Next SL cranks except that they have a spindle long enough for a FatBike bottom bracket shell (actually they’re available in two ‘Fat’ lengths so they can be used with, for instance, a Pugsley or a Moonlander).

The cranks can be ordered with splined spiders that are specific to a 2 or 3 chainring set up, or you can get a spiderless wide/narrow single ring that can be used without a chain guide (assuming you use a clutch drive rear derailleur). The splined spiders accommodate normal BCD 4 bolt chainrings.

The whole FatBike crank setup with 2 chainrings, bearings and cups, etc comes in at a little under 700 grams. That’s pretty darn good.

But wait, there’s more…as pictured above we also discovered that the open source splined spindle used for the Race Face FatBike crankset is the same used with the Cannondale Hollowgram cranksets. Once we realized this we called RaceFace to see if the FatBike spindles could be ordered separately and the answer was yes! In fact one of our shop staff has already ordered a spindle to work with the Hollowgram crankset he had kicking around, now to be installed on his Moonlander. Pretty cool.

What will all of this set you back? A full 2x setup including spider, chainrings, and BB costs about $750 depending on your exact specs.

These are special order items so we won’t have anything in stock but we’d be happy to make a call for you anytime.
