Niner, known until now exclusively for their 29er mountain bikes, is sorta branching out a bit with what we’d describe most accurately as a gravel grinder. Yes, technically it can still run 29er rims (in some instances there’s hardly any difference between 29er wheels and 700c cyclocross wheels anyway) but as capable as this new offering is in the dirt it is definitely not a mountain bike.
Niner describes it this way:
IS IT A 29ER? A MONSTER-CROSS MACHINE? YES. IS IT A GRAVEL GRINDER? YES.
WHETHER YOU RIDE DROP BARS OR FLATS, SKINNY TIRES OR SOMETHING A BIT MORE ROTUND, IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. THE RLT 9 DOESN’T DEFINE YOU BY WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN, BUT ENCOURAGES YOU TO BECOME SOMEONE NEW, TO TAKE THE LEFT TURN AND TO LEAVE THE CONSTRAINTS OF THE YELLOW LINES BEHIND.
With a 135mm rear spacing, clearance for 45mm tires, and of course disc compatibility this bike definitely swings towards the mountain bike end of gravel bike / ‘cross set ups, and we think that’s pretty cool. Learn more about what Niner has to say about the RLT here. We don’t have any in stock yet but we’re looking forward to laying our hands on one in person.
