Touring season is almost upon us, so that means we’re featuring a touring bike. The Salsa Vaya 3 has all the usual touring trappings like a compliant steel frame, a large gear range, a wide drop bar with bar end shifters, and ample clearance for wider than normal road tires.
However, as Salsa bills this as a touring and road adventure bike it also has mechanical disc brakes and a slightly tighter geometry than what you find on some touring bikes. It’s still a straight tracking bike with a longish wheelbase and no toe overlap, but it’s also reasonably nimble on dirt.
At $1470 the purpose built frameset mated to thoughtful components including a mix of Sora and Deore make this a great deal, whether you’re planning to ride across Canada or just looking to ride the gravel roads around cottage country.
We special ordered the one pictured below for a customer, and we can do the same for you.
