This is the kind of hardtail mountain bike that makes us really scratch our heads when we see folks pass up their local bike shop and try to save a few bucks by buying a bike at a department store. For just $625 the Marin Pioneer Trail has a lightweight aluminum frame, mechanical disc brakes, and a front shock with full lockout. It has standard dimensions for all of its components and is easily serviceable and repairable. Most of all, when you buy from us you know the bike will be set up properly, you get a free tune up after the first month (when brakes and gears tend to ‘settle in’) and then again after the first year.
We’re not here to bash other businesses, and there are plenty of good non-bike deals to be had at your local department store and plenty of good people working for them, but bikes just need to come from bike shops, and they need to be name brand bikes that are backed by their manufacturer and the store that sold them to you.
Case in point: Most (dare we say all) decent aluminum framed bikes are built with a replaceable rear derailleur drop out so that if the bike falls on its drive side, knocks the derailleur and bends or snaps where it’s attached to the frame a new replacement drop out can be reattached to the frame, the derailleur can be reattached, and you can be on your way in no time. Did you know that even though some department store bikes come with replaceable drop outs they are usually hard to get or in many cases literally impossible to find (many bikes have drop outs unique to that specific model), whereas the bikes from your local bike shop have readily available drop outs to get you back on the road quickly?
Again, the choice is obviously yours and we wish you nothing but fun times on the roads and trails no matter where you shop, but we want you to be able to make educated shopping choices. The Marin Pioneer Trail is a perfect example of a good bike at a great price point that can be maintained and serviced for many, many years to come, and we’re happy to help with that.
