We’re slowly posting new info to the FatBikes pages on this site and this week we included some info on 100mm cranksets, but we thought it was worth also pointing out a couple of new developments here:
First off all, you may have already heard that Sram recently announced they were about to begin full production of X5 and X9 2×10 100mm cranksets, so you now have a couple more FatBike crankset options. We hope to be able to get our hands on these soon.
What might be even more exciting though is that Sram also plans to start making their XX1 crankset in a 100mm version so you can run a full Sram 1×11 speed drivetrain on your FatBike with no front derailleur, no chainguide, no tire/chain rub concerns, and no worry about the chain falling off in spite of the minimalist set up. Cool! We’ll post more here as info is available, but for the moment it looks like the earliest we’ll see the XX1 is late 2013, and possible only in 2014. It’ll be worth the wait. Besides, you should probably be given a bit of time to save up your money, ’cause XX1 doesn’t come cheap.
